What are The Little Things in Life?

I suppose this question has many different answers depending on who you ask and when you ask them. I think the majority of people would agree that it comprises of a few things.

1. “Money can’t buy me love”

Firstly ‘The Little Things’ in Life are usually free, the warm fuzzy feeling you get from that late night chat with a giggling toddler who refuses to sleep, or that contented feeling when you come in from a cold windy day to a warm cosy spot to read in.

2. The Little Things don’t have to be big

This sounds obvious, but bare with me here, sometimes it doesn’t have to be a tangible act that you can put your finger on that gives you the ‘feels’. It might be the happiness you get when you’re around friends and you’re having a laugh at something ridiculous and immature, and you feel grateful that you have found people of the same ilk. It can be that small and insignificant, however sometime it’s these moments which are the most significant in reaffirming our place on this blue and green marble.

3. They can pass you by in a blink of an eye

Nostalgia, that bittersweet feeling of looking back fondly at something with fondness and also that sense of loss of times passed. I mean lets be frank, even though we may feel wistful about those late nights we used to have in our University days, it’s not like we’re dying to squeeze ourselves in to a tight dress and cramp our toes in to those 6 inch stilettos like we used to. However there is still that melancholic feeling at a previous ‘you’ that you will never be again. Taking the time to reminisce can be a cathartic experience and helps us centre ourselves in the present and make us realise that ‘these are the good old days’.

Most of all the Little Things are those small everyday moments that become large memories in the heart.
